LCWR recently organized a workshop entitled “Imagining Justice” for Justice and Peace Co-Ordinators and Major Superiors. Attended by around 100 women religious and facilitated by Sr Carol Zinn, SSJ., the workshop looked at the Why, the What and the How of our involvement in social justice. The concern of Leadership is how to ensure continuity. The justice agenda is huge so how do we stay involved? We are very good at the what and the how. We have so many excellent programs and strategies. But we are not good at the Why of our commitment to the poor and the planet. We need to concentrate on a contemplative approach to imaging justice. Our LCWR call 2015-2022 “to understand and address the root causes of systemic evil”, together with Pope Francis’ The Joy of the Gospel and Laudato Si provide a guide and a blueprint for our reflection as we seek to identify the ultimate “Why” of all our action for social justice. Contemplation is in itself action for justice.
