The Handmaids' Unanima representative, Sister Margaret Scott, attended May 2016 forum
UNAMINA International is a coalition of 21 communities of religious women with NGO status at the United Nations. As ambassadors of conscience, we are called to advocate on behalf of women and children, immigrants and refugees, and our common home; to educate and influence policymakers at the global level to work for systemic change to achieve a more just world.
In 2012 the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart made a conscious decision to join the UNANIMA coalition. We wanted to reach out beyond ourselves, in partnership with other religious women, to a global forum in order to work for change in the international community at the level of unjust structures and systems that harm the poor and the planet.
